Ordering notes

How much can I order online?

Home Delivery orders can be placed with a value between £100.00 and £2500.00. All applicable minimum and maximum order values are displayed on the ordering screens. Please note there are some countries which limit the amount of currency you can take in or take out and it is your responsibility to ensure that you meet any such restrictions.

In the UK you must complete a Cash Declaration form if you plan to take out (or return with) EUR10,000 or more, or the equivalent in any currency, in cash (notes).

To obtain a Cash Declaration (C9011) form, visit the following website https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/import-and-export-cash-declaration-c9011

Can I order currency notes in multiple currencies?

Yes, you can order different foreign banknote currencies at the same time in the one order (e.g. for trips that include multiple country destinations). The same £2500 maximum ordering limit will still apply.

How can I check what rate of exchange is being applied?

The current exchange rates are displayed throughout the ordering process. In addition, a rate display is provided on the client’s travel money ordering website.

Do I get any benefit for being a Nectar Card holder?

Yes you do. If you tell us your Nectar card number when placing your order, we’ll give you a better exchange rate. If you are not a member, why not join today?

Will I be charged extra for using my debit / credit card?

No we won’t charge you any extra when buying foreign currency by card.

Some card providers may charge a cash advance fee and interest for buying currencies. Cash advance fees will not show on your travel money order, but you’ll be able to see them on your card statement. If you’re not sure, you should check with your card issuer.

Are there any administration fees?

No we won’t charge you any administration fees when you order currency from us.

When will I receive my home delivery order?

You can pick a specific delivery date up to 7 days in advance. Please note Saturday deliveries are not guaranteed. Delivery will usually be made by 1pm on your chosen delivery date.

Who do I speak to if I am having a problem placing an order or require further assistance?

How much will I be charged to buy foreign currency notes from the Travel Money website?

We aim to provide foreign currency at competitive rates. Any delivery or payment charges for your order will be calculated and displayed clearly throughout the ordering process. We reserve the right to amend pricing from time to time to reflect any changes in costs.

Please note that your credit card provider may charge a cash advance fee for buying currency.

What Denominations will I receive?

We will endeavour to supply you with a mix of banknotes, but this cannot be guaranteed. Certain currencies and denominations are limited and can impact our ability to provide a mix of notes. Your order will be placed in accordance with the denominations available and will automatically be rounded to reflect available denominations.

We appreciate that it is always handy to have a few small denominations available for small purchases at the start of your travels and we will endeavour to provide a mix of notes whenever possible.

When will my payment card be debited?

When placing the order, you will be requested to complete some of the following card details depending on the type of card used - e.g. card type, card number, card holder name, issue date, expiry date, and/or verification number (if required).

As soon as you select the ‘Pay now’ button on your order, and the order is accepted online, we look to validate your card, and the availability of funds will be checked and held (ring-fenced). Please be advised that the initial pre-authorisation of these funds will not be taken by us if your order is not dispatched. It can take 3-10 working days for the pre-authorisation to lapse and we recommend you contact your card issuer to speed up this process. This release of credit is determined by your card issuer and is not under the control of First Rate or Sainsbury’s Travel money.

If you retry payment with the same card your card issuer may hold the same amount again, thereby reducing your credit limit/funds held. If you believe your card payment has been incorrectly declined, then please contact your bank/card issuer to check all your details are correct before contacting Customer Services as they will be able to provide you with more information than what First Rate can supply.

Please note, your payment card issuer may limit your maximum value of a cash transaction irrespective of your card limit. Please check with your card issuer should you experience unexpected problems with using your card on the website.

How will I know that the transaction has been successful?

You will receive confirmation on screen stating that the order has been successfully completed. You should retain a copy of this for your records. In addition, an email will be sent to the email address you have provided. Please contact customer services if you have not received your confirmation email.

If your order has been declined, you will receive an on-screen message to this confirm this.

Will I receive a call from you in relation to my order?

Possibly. First Rate reserves the right to request further information from you at any time to enable them to complete your order and/or to comply with regulatory requirements. It is therefore important that you provide the correct contact details so First Rate can contact you should they need to obtain further information to process your order. Please note if First Rate is unable to contact you this may result in your order not being completed and a full refund being applied to your payment card. First Rate reserves the right not to conduct business with you for any reason at their discretion and you will be notified of any such decision. For security reasons we reserve the right not to inform customers of the reasons behind this decision.

Can I cancel my order?

Due to the nature of foreign currency as a money product, once an order has been submitted it cannot be changed. Any changes will be regarded as a cancellation by First Rate. Cancellation can only be undertaken prior to dispatch of your order by First Rate. First Rate, at its discretion, reserves the right to apply a cancellation charge up to the value of £10.00 per order.

What happens if I want my order to be delivered to a different address from my card billing address?

Your order can only be delivered to the billing address of your card to protect against unauthorised card use.
